While listening to a podcast recently, I heard an interesting thing. What we would probably call a rich person chose a less-prestigious school so that she could avoid borrowing money.

The person is Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett. She indicated in a speech that she chose Notre Dame Law School over Harvard or Yale (where all the other justices attended). Notre Dame gave her a full tuition scholarship. She said she chose Notre Dame to avoid having to work for a big law firm just to pay off her school debt. She is now making over $250,000 a year and can choose what to do with that income rather than just making school debt payments with most of it.

Just a side note, I’m guessing that the person who offered her the full-tuition scholarship feels pretty good now that Notre Dame has a law school graduate on the Supreme Court. If it were me, I’d be ecstatic.
