Everyone loves being in debt – NOT! Originally posted on 1/21/22

So, you’ve gone to college and did it using student loans. I’m guessing it turned out to be a much bigger debt than you thought it would be. How do you get rid of that debt?

The average college loan balance as of summer 2021 is almost $40,000. The average payment on that debt is $393 a month. That doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. In fact, it sounds oppressive.

So far in this blog, I have spent much time discussing avoiding college debt. Since that is the theme of the book I published in 2020, it makes sense to emphasize that. However, the book “Say No! To College Debt” spends a lot of time covering how to pay off already existing student loans. I think it’s also time to cover some of that in my blog.

About the time that my book was coming out, it was election season. And as you may recall, one of the big talking points in the election was student debt. Some candidates were promising to pay off chunks of student loan debt for each student. Some candidates wanted to eliminate all student loan debt.

We’ve all seen the election results, and we’ve all seen very little in the way of action relating to student debt. If you still think the government will relieve you of at least part of your payments, you may be hoping in vain. And those payments are going to be starting up again soon.

My timing for issuing the book seemed flawed, with all the paydown student loan rhetoric floating around. I probably would have had a much bigger launch had I waited until candidates didn’t keep their promises. But I’m not interested in a big launch. I’m interested in helping people in trouble with their student loans and helping students not get the loans in the first place.

Over the following months, I will use this blog to provide tips for paying off student loans. What I will write is also appropriate for any outstanding debt. You can follow my posts on FaceBook or LinkedIn or sign up at www.SayNoToCollegeDebt.com to get notifications when the blog posts are published. You can also order copies of the book from the website or Amazon.com. There are great debt paydown tips all in one place in the book.

Please forward this to anyone who would benefit from reading it or anyone who would benefit from the upcoming posts. And thanks for reading.
