Student Loan by Spouse may just be on Spouse

The US Senate recently passed a bill that may allow separation of student loan liability between spouses. If a separated or divorced spouse was listed on a person’s student loan in the past, they were usually liable for that loan. Whether the bill will go on to the president or not is unclear as the House of Representatives still needs to vote on it. It’s hard to know what other things could be added to the bill that the Senate passed. Regrettably, more than one good bill has died when partisan politicians decided to piggyback other things onto a good bill to shoehorn their agendas in.

This bill could be a good rule change in cases where a person has put his or her spouse’s name on a loan without the spouse’s consent. It does happen and shouldn’t. If this will affect you or someone you know, keep an eye on the outcome.

Thanks for reading. And please pass this on to anyone you know who might be able to use the information.
